Balancing rights and freedoms with the legal duty to keep people safe can be extremely challenging. No-one wants to cause unintentional harm or be accused of assault and breaching a person’s human rights.

On our Positive Handling Courses you will learn that it is not illegal to touch a pupil or service user. In fact, there are occasions when, as an absolute last resort, physical contact including using reasonable force, is proper and necessary.

Teacher and Trainer, Millgate School

The course moved at a good pace and the information about the law was put into ‘bite size’ pieces. The trainers were knowledgeable and friendly. I would definitely recommend this course to others.

Head of Key Stage 4, Beauchamp College

Terry and his team delivered an excellent, engaging session which covered all aspects of conflict resolution that we would be required to deal with in a school setting, including physical handling. The administration and organisation of the course was efficient, with useful resources shared.

The expertise and knowledge of the instructors with real life experience was clearly evident when discussing possible scenarios, including the law, rights and active engagement with students. Practical sessions were purposeful and the real-life scenarios allowed you to practice handling in a safe but challenging way.

All staff present on our course rated it as excellent.

I would strongly recommend Oakwood Training to any school to complete their staff training, as the conflict resolution information is valuable and the physical handling techniques give you a safe option if all other strategies have failed.

Adult Social Care Trainer, Leicestershire County Council

The Positive Handling Course delivered by Oakwood Training was a fantastic course with a good flow to the 3 days. It was all interesting with a good mixture of theory and practical. The course exceeded my expectations and the trainer’s knowledge was excellent.

Deputy Head Teacher, Fullhurst Community College

The course was excellent, very informative and fun. The mix of legal information and practical skills means that we are well equipped for incidents

Trainer, Melton Care Services

An enjoyable course with 2 excellent trainers. I would definitely recommend this course to others.

Head of Quality, Curriculum and People, Catch 22

As a geographically dispersed group of Alternative Provision schools, Oakwood provided the solution to a consistent approach to the safe and positive handling of students. Our staff now have the confidence to deliver training in house in order to keep staff and students safe across our schools

Project Co-Ordinator, Catch 22

The BTEC Level 2 Award in Disengagement and Physical Intervention was both informative and fun to do. I found the legislation section really useful, which in turn has given me the confidence to make those all important decisions around using force. The trainers were confident and very experienced and the course paperwork was easy to follow and complete.
